Remote Contract Technology
Principal Product Designer
Remote (U.S.) | Contract

TalentReach is hiring on behalf of a client seeking an experienced Principal Product Designer to provide senior-level design leadership for a net-new, AI-first product initiative within an enterprise SaaS environment.

This is not a traditional production design role. We're looking for a highly autonomous design leader who can operate in an ambiguous 0-to-1 environment, influence product direction, and bring Product, Engineering, and Design stakeholders together around a clear vision.

Summary

As Principal Product Designer, you'll lead design for a new AI-native product experience from early exploration and concept development through detailed, engineering-ready specifications.

You'll be expected to explore multiple approaches before converging on a solution, articulate the reasoning behind design decisions, and actively drive alignment across senior stakeholders. The role requires both strategic product thinking and the ability to take designs through the final level of detail required for implementation.

What You'll Do

  • Lead end-to-end product design for a net-new, AI-first product area

  • Own the design process from early exploration and concepting through detailed, build-ready specifications

  • Explore multiple divergent design directions before converging on solutions

  • Clearly communicate design rationale, tradeoffs, and recommendations to Product, Engineering, Design, and other stakeholders

  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional working sessions, design reviews, and product discussions

  • Drive stakeholders toward decisions and alignment when requirements or product direction are still evolving

  • Design novel interaction patterns for AI-driven experiences, including conversational interfaces, generative outputs, agentic workflows, and trust and transparency patterns

  • Create complete user flows covering states, edge cases, interactions, and other details required for engineering implementation

  • Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering throughout the development process

  • Contribute to and extend existing design systems when new AI interaction patterns or components are required

  • Develop prototypes to evaluate product concepts and communicate complex AI interactions

  • Maintain a high level of design quality while moving quickly within an evolving product environment

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of product design, UX design, or related experience

  • Principal, Lead, or equivalent-level ownership of complex enterprise SaaS products

  • Demonstrated experience designing AI-first or AI-native product experiences, rather than simply adding AI functionality to an existing product

  • Proven 0-to-1 experience taking a new product or significant product area from initial concept through launch

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design ownership, including exploration, concept development, interaction design, and detailed developer-ready specifications

  • Experience designing complex workflows and interaction patterns

  • Strong facilitation skills with demonstrated ability to drive alignment among senior cross-functional stakeholders

  • Ability to clearly articulate design rationale, tradeoffs, and product recommendations

  • Advanced proficiency with Figma and modern design and prototyping tools

  • Ability to operate independently, make decisions with incomplete information, and quickly establish direction

  • Strong collaboration skills with Product Management and Engineering teams

  • Ability to ramp quickly and contribute at a senior level with minimal oversight

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience prototyping AI-powered or LLM-driven product interactions

  • Experience designing conversational interfaces, generative experiences, or agentic workflows

  • Experience establishing UX patterns around AI trust, transparency, control, and user confidence

  • Background designing collaborative, productivity, workflow, or enterprise software

  • Experience extending or evolving design systems to support emerging product patterns
