What is your favorite aspect of recruiting?

It’s tough to choose a favorite. Of course, helping people find fulfilling opportunities and develop their careers is very rewarding. However, one of the things I enjoy the most is learning about what people are working on. The technology industry is incredibly interesting and as a recruiter I feel like I’m right in the middle of it all. 

What do you see as the biggest challenge for candidates in this market? For employers?

For candidates the first thing that comes to mind is getting their foot in the door. The market is hot and there are tons of opportunities but it can be challenging to be noticed. It’s not uncommon that I hear candidates talk about being ghosted and struggling to move processes forward. 

For employers I think the challenge is how to utilize the vast candidate pool that exists and think outside the box. Taking a cookie cutter approach isn’t always best — I think there is immense value in getting to know your applicants and assessing how those folks can add value to your business with things that aren’t measurable on a resume or job description. 

What is the best piece of advice you have for candidates?

Develop and utilize your network. Help get people connected even when it may not benefit yourself. You’d be surprised when the favor will be returned.

What do you love to do when you aren’t working?

I love to spend time with family, cook, and be outdoors. Anything really, but my #1 outdoor hobby is dirt biking!
