BECU and TalentReach

TalentReach is thrilled to have a long-term relationship with BECU, and to be able to serve their
unique staffing needs. Together, TalentReach and BECU have developed a customized contract
staffing and recruiting solution that reflects the BECU brand while attracting top tech candidates
in an extraordinarily tight market.

A unique organization has unique staffing needs. BECU is not a typical financial institution. It’s a
not-for-profit, member-owned organization with more than 1.28 million members. It’s a
well-known brand locally and enjoys a superior reputation in the Puget Sound region. In fact,
more than one in five people in the area are BECU members. Their primary purpose is to help
improve the financial well-being of their members and their community, and this is a mission that
requires a dedicated team that is behind this purpose.

BECU often needs qualified tech experts for short-term roles, especially for six to 12-month
projects. They need to source people who are open to these roles in an environment when
qualified candidates have endless opportunities from the many large tech employers in town.
And in many situations, candidates for employment are also members. BECU looks to
TalentReach to find the equally unique individuals who are a good fit for this arrangement, and
who are excited about being part of such a community-oriented team. TalentReach is able to act
as an extension of BECU, an agency managing a steady stable of contract employees who can
scale up or down according to BECU’s needs.

Jon Jenks-Bauer

“We want to work with a recruiting partner who understands and represents our brand well,”
says Jon Jenks-Bauer, Recruiting Director for BECU. ”TalentReach and BECU have a long-term
relationship, as TalentReach gives our contract employees many of the benefits of employment.
Our purpose and values are aligned, and our account manager understands the way we work,
and how important it is to us how TalentReach engages with prospective talent.”
TalentReach understands what makes BECU unique, and what will make them attractive as an
employment opportunity to certain talent. Talent who might be used to working for big tech
titans, and who are looking for speculative stock equity are probably not going to be a good fit.
The BECU tech team is relatively small for the Seattle area, around 400 people, but they are
purpose-driven and have an opportunity to make an oversized positive impact on the members
of the community.

The process for BECU’s recruiting with TalentReach has evolved into a very highly efficient one. When BECU’s team needs new members for a project, they reach out to their TalentReach account manager, who does a deep dive of the hiring manager’s specific needs, and what exactly the person will be doing. Then the TalentReach account rep digs into their deep network, to carefully curate a list of potential candidates who are intrigued with a short term assignment. Then they present that list to BECU, and they can interview from that list, rather than going through hundreds of candidates that might have the right skills, but who aren’t a good fit for the unique nonprofit mission of BECU. This careful approach has delivered many excellent candidates who are happy to be part of the BECU team for as long as they are needed.

TalentReach is all about long term relationships – with clients and candidates alike. BECU is a client that TalentReach plans to work with for as long as they are doing their excellent work in the community.
